Taco/Fajita Crescent Roll Wreath

The wreath is cut!

Sometimes, you want a certain taste or dish, but you don’t want it done the “same old way”, right? I was feeling that way about fajitas and tacos. I love them, don’t get me wrong, but I was wanting them done up some other way. I considered a casserole version but then I poked around online and saw a recipe for a cheese, broccoli and chicken stuffed wreath made out of crescent roll dough and thought, “Ah ha! This is what I’m looking for!”

Also, just a note:  I have a tendency of using fajita seasoning instead of taco seasoning, even when we’re having tacos. It’s a personal preference. Use your own. 🙂

COMPARISON: Smart Ones breakfast sandwich vs homemade

A box of Smart Ones English muffin breakfast sandwiches.Recently, I’ve reviewed a couple of frozen meals, but I thought I’d switch it up a bit today and compare two products today instead of just giving you my random, meandering thoughts on what I thought of the frozen meal in question.

Today, I’m going to compare a frozen meal with the nearly identical product made from scratch, specifically made with ‘lighter’ ingredients. The frozen meal in question is Weight Watchers “Smart Ones” English Muffin Sandwich. I like these because they’re easy enough to throw in the freezer at work and to toss into the microwave on morning break (I’m one of those freaks who can’t eat immediately after getting up in the morning).

Rediscovering deli meat

A deli turkey sandwich on whole wheat toasted bread.Since I’ve been on this new low-carb, low-sugar, low-sodium kick, I’ve been avoiding deli meat like the plague. Why? Primarily due to the sodium levels.

Looking at some of the nutritional values for deli turkey or Black Forest ham was a bit of a shocker. Some of them were boasting 400+ mg of sodium for a single slice of meat.

I mourned the loss of one of my old favourites from my meal plan but I really couldn’t justify having deli meat sandwiches if the sodium levels would fill up my day’s worth of sodium in two sandwiches.

Too hot to bake? Try microwaving! Apple-raisin-cinnamon nuked muffin.

So of course, I went scouring through search after search, just making myself more and more hungry, until I stumbled across a recipe called “Blueberry Muffin for One”, which gave baking instructions for both the conventional oven, as well as the microwave!

Chocolate-filled Pilsbury crescent rolls – a little sweet treat

Two chocolate-filled crescent rolls sit on a white plate. One has been cut in half to show the white and dark chocolate inside.A week from Christmas, my mom asked me to bring rolls to dinner. I picked up a few tubes of Pilsbury crescent rolls with the intent of baking them up before we were to head to her place for dinner. A few days before Christmas, I got a call to say I didn’t need to bring them, that she had picked up some other dinner rolls which would work just fine.

I decided that today I would bake  up some of them, hoping that I could  do something fun with them. I’ve packed them full of ham and cheese in the past but this time, I wanted something a little sweeter this time. Continue reading
